Elementary Education (1st - 5th grade)

Welcome to Covenant's interactive Elementary Sunday School program that enables children to use their gifts while engaging in discoveries from God's Word.  In a nurturing environment that includes singing, prayer, role play, scripture and leadership opportunities, children learn about God's faithfulness and the love of Jesus Christ.  Christian service and stewardship are also an important part of our children's ministry.

Parents are welcome to observe and/or participate any time.  Visitors are always welcomed.  Teachers and class shepherds are needed for each class on a monthy rotation.  if you would like to serve in one of these roles please contact Anne Lowrance (704-804-7593) for information and training.

This Month

Sunday School Rotation #6 for grades 1-4 will be "Remembering & Honoring" (mothers, grandmothers, role models, soldiers) through writing, art and cooking gifts.  Grade 5 will be learning "puppetry" and preparing for a special 5th grade graduation program on June 3, 9:30 am in the Chapel.

Summer Sunday School - Sunday School Goes to Worship" (9:30 am) - Children may attend with parents or as a group.  They will move to the Upper Room during the sermon for a Sunday school lesson on the sermon scripture.  Two adults each Sunday are needed to serve as "shepherds" (no teaching responsibility).  Contact Anne to volunteer.

Summer Sunday School, 10:45-11:30 - Modern Family - Intergenerational Sunday School class for grade 1 through adult.

Child Protection Video Training will be offered Sunday, July 29, 10:30-11:00 am in Master Peace Theater.  All volunteers with children and youth up to age 18 need to see this video if you have not done so.  Contact Anne Lowrance to RSVP.

Children's Sunday School Curriculum - Anne Lowrance would like to hear from parents and children about Sunday School for grades 1-5 next fall.  Please call, email or drop by her office to chat about your hopes and desires for elementary Christian education at Covenant.

VBS Training Meetings

Tuesday, June 3, 5:00 pm, EW 307 - VBS training with light supper for all VBS staff.

Tuesday, June 3, 7:00-7:30 pm, Chapel - VBS Parent meeting for all parents of children attending VBS (preschool & elementary).

"Under Construction" Vacation Bible School will be held June 25-29 at Covenant for children ages 3 (as of 8/31/11) through rising 6th grade.

Hours and fees:

Early Childhood 9:00am - 12:00 pm ($30 per child)

Elementary 9:00 am - 2:00 pm ($40 per child)

Elementary children will BYO lunches.  The week will include "construction" themed Bible Stories, crafts, games and food art.  Elementary students will also participate in a bus tour of local Habitat For Humanity home sites and building a real shed to be donated to HFH.  Following a dedication service o Friday, children will be treated to a water slide and wet fun on Covenant's own "Point".  For more information contact Anne Lowrance.
